What to Expect in Therapy
Therapy is time for you. It is an opportunity for you to process, learn and set goals for yourself. It is a process of self-discovery and healing. The first session is us getting to know you. I want to know your story. This is how I can better understand how to best help you. From there, we work together to process the things that you want to work through, set goals for change or just to learn more about yourself. There is no right or wrong way to "do" therapy. It is also important to remember that therapy is a process. If you are looking for a quick fix or that "magic pill," you will be disappointed. Therapy may not make you feel instantly better or solve that problem immediately, but it will help you learn how to work though it, live with it and make changes as you see fit. Your therapist is your personal guide along your journey.

You may be familiar with Telehealth. This is when you see a medical provider via a secure video link, on your own device and wherever you may be. Mental health is also moving in this direction. It is called Teletherapy. This is counseling that is provided online via secure phone or video (and sometimes live chat). It is a way to provide virtual mental health services and makes therapy more accessible. While this is a new way to do therapy, research has proven it is just as effective as in-person therapy. Like anything in life, you get out what you put in.
What are the benefits of Teletherapy?
Teletherapy allows for greater access to care, more privacy and even more affordability. It brings therapy to you and is more convenient and flexible. While there may be occasional tech issues, for the most part the platforms used are pretty reliable and all are HIPPA compliant, so no worrying about your confidential information. Teletherapy also offers an easier way to find a therapist that could be a match for you. One of the reasons many people don't seek therapy is the process of just trying to find a therapist can be exhausting. Using a teletherapy service takes most of the guess work out of it and makes it easy to get started as soon as you want!
